![]() Custom Made Focusing Hood Tube Dark Cloth for
6X17 Cameras
(FH617) $48.00 + $5.00 S&H
Camera and tripod
are NOT included! Have you ever used a standard focusing cloth and still had trouble seeing the ground glass? Well I have the answer with this one. I had this focusing cloth custom made for 4X5 & 6X17 cameras. The
advantage of this one is it has elastic at the camera end to fit around the
back of the camera, and Velcro at the bottom to keep the light from coming
in at the bottom. It is open at the back to get your head in to see the
ground glass and focus the camera. It is made of light weight fabric so it weighs only about 6 ounces so it will not weigh down your back pack or camera bag. It is black on the inside and silver on the outside, so you could also use it as a reflector for small objects. The silver side feels like it is made from a rubberized coating that stands up well to heat or cold. The bottom is held closed by Velcro, so it is easy to open it a bit to put your hand in with a loupe for critical focusing. This hood was designed to fit a 4X5 or a & 6X17 Camera but has a large enough opening to almost fit a 5X7. The front opening can go from 17" - 34" measurement and is about 24" long. (Measure all four sides of the back of your camera and add them together).
If you are looking for a focusing hood for another size large format Camera look at my other auctions in my store. Here is what one of my many satisfied customers had to say about my custom focusing hoods after he bought both a 4X5 and an 8X10 Hood. "If any one accessory or devise was to me a must to have, it is your hoods."
Thanks again for coming up with this Great Product. It sure is making my composing and focusing so much easier to do. I had always tried to think of sometime to use as a hood that I could fashion myself that would aid in my outdoor large format shooting. But, you have the pattern down, and the materials are perfect (liter weight, durable, and light tight, not to mention basically weather proof. Like I said, I used it as somewhat of a shield to protect my camera when the hard rain and pea sized but abundant hail started. I was using a rail camera at the time and had just a second after a lighting strike to close my camera down slip the hood over it and hoist it and the tripod over my shoulder and run for cover. It protected the lens and shutter and especially the ground glass from any water or hail hits as I ran to the car about a half mile away. For the price I paid, it is really worth every penny (and I have only used it on this one trip so far). Having less frustration plus saving me a lot of time in the composing, focusing process is a great change over the ole cloth. The light can change in a heart beat, so getting the image and focus within seconds if necessary is important. Professional photographer for over 13 years.
